Keeping communities safe as we build

Hard hats and hi-vis spring to mind when we think of ‘Health and Safety’, but there is so much more to it than that…

As with any construction project, the quality of workmanship, and health and safety of people is paramount. Of course there are important legal requirements, but we like to go the extra mile.

Consulting with local communities plays a huge part in this. Throughout the project we have, and will continue to engage, seeking feedback and answering questions. For example, our liaison officer Hayley Cunningham has visited schools across the region, meeting schoolchildren to explain how full fibre networks are built safely and answer their questions – everything from what PPE is, to why we use traffic cones, machinery and trenches.

As well as daily inspections and ongoing observations, NGE carry out in-depth audits, the most recent – a four day inspection – was held just before Christmas.

Health & Safety is not something that can be cut corners on. The four day audit underlined the extremely high standards of health and safety, environmental consciousness, and quality of workmanship.
